YEAR END REFLECTION! Are You Living The Life You Truly Want?

A few days ago, I sat down and started reflecting on how this year went. What was good? What was the best? What was the worst? What do I need to change in the coming year? While journaling, one powerful question came to my mind: Are you living your life the way you truly want?

I could not find the answer immediately. So, I decided to write down everything I love doing and asked myself whether I’m actually doing any of those things. That moment of honesty with myself turned out to be life-changing.

In this era of social media, we are constantly consuming, watching, scrolling, comparing, and in the process, we often lose touch with our authenticity. We start to forget who we are, tricked into believing that what everyone else is doing is what we should be doing too. It is easy to feel like we are missing out, but this fear of missing out is a blindfold that social media has tied around our eyes.

Here is the truth: You are unique. That uniqueness is what makes you beautiful. It is what makes the world a richer, more vibrant place. Some people might try to confuse you, insisting your life is boring or that you are missing out on the "fun." But don’t let anyone define for you what having fun should look like. Ask yourself: does getting drunk, smoking, having casual encounters, or staying out until morning genuinely make you happy? Or are you doing it because everyone else in your circle is doing it? It is easy to lose yourself when you start living someone else’s dream instead of your own.

Our society often equates solitude with loneliness. As a result, we feel awkward about sitting in a restaurant alone, exploring beautiful places on our own, or doing something different from the crowd. But let’s be honest, are you really enjoying being part of the crowd if it means running away from who you are and who you could become?

I used to believe that if I could change one thing in the world, it would be to make it a fair place for everyone. Recently, however, I had a small but profound realization. During a blackout, I grew frustrated because it was the second one in as many days. My phone had no power, and I couldn’t distract myself. When I called the electricity service, they assured me that a technician was already working late into the night to fix the problem. It struck me how much I needed their effort to restore my comfort. Yet, for them, it was likely exhausting work.

That’s when it dawned on me: Life isn’t meant to be equal in every way. Differences and diversity keep the world balanced. We each play a role, and it is those differences that allow us to complement and support one another.

As the year ends today, take a step back and observe your life. Are you living it the way you truly want? Are you doing things that make you feel good every day, or are you just moving with the crowd, not knowing who you are or what you want from this one, precious life?

Make it a priority to find out who you are. Write down what makes you happy and ask yourself: Am I doing those things? This simple exercise could change your perspective and, ultimately, your life. Remember, you don’t need to follow the crowd to feel fulfilled. You are enough just as you are.

Happy New Year To You All! Thank You For Being With Me This Year Of 2024💓
